Study your April sight words.  

Please have your child read the book in the red take home reader folders.  If your child does not bring home a take home reader, please have your child read on RAZKIDS.

Practice using a 120 chart.  Make sure they can find the number that is 10 more, 10 less, 1 more, and 1 less.

Continue reviewing these skills:
Money and skip counting by 2's, 5's, 10's

2-d and 3-d shapes as well as word problems.  Students need to recognize plane (2D) shapes and solid (3D) figures.  Students need to know what vertices, edges, faces and bases (flat surfaces on 3D shapes) are for the shapes.  Look for objects at home and have students count how many vertices, edges, and faces it has.

Continue to work on word problems with your child as well.

Ex.  Pam has 10 seashells.  3 are in the bucket.  How many are on the towel?

Ex.  John has some candy.  He gave 3 pieces away.  Now he has 5 left.  How many pieces of candy did John have before he gave some away?

Ex.  Sam has 10 red flowers and 5 white flowers.  How many more red flowers than white flowers does he have?

Ex. I have 12 pencils.  3 are on my desk.  The rest are in my bag.  How many are in my bag?

Students should be able to read, spell, and write the words correctly.  There will be a spelling test (daily grade) and a dictation test (major grade).

Class Information

Students need to keep their 1st Grade name tag attached to their backpacks all year as this is used to scan the children as they go home each day.  Please do not let your child put stickers on these tags. :)
